SECS/GEM Legacy Retrofits
Bring SECS/GEM to the process equipment you built and trust.
SECS/GEM for Legacy Equipment
TransSECS makes it possible to add a fully compliant SECS/GEM interface to tools that were never designed for it — even if your original control software can’t be modified.
Common Challenges in Legacy Tool Integration
Retrofitting older tools for SECS/GEM can feel risky or cost-prohibitive — especially when the tool is working reliably and not designed for networked control.
The solution: Retrofit SECS/GEM by Wrapping Your Existing System with TransSECS
TransSECS is built to “wrap and embrace” your existing control system — not replace it. Whether your tool is PLC-based, embedded, or Windows-driven, we help you layer SECS/GEM on top of what already works.
Some minimal SECS/GEM mode awareness is required:
- Your tool must be able to recognize REMOTE vs LOCAL mode (operator vs host control)
- Your tool must handle ONLINE vs OFFLINE (host connectivity state)
These bits are standard in SECS/GEM and can typically be implemented as a flag in your PLC or user interface. We’ll work with you to determine the simplest way to support them.
How TransSECS Supports Legacy Integration
Tap directly into PLCs, control memory, or databases to expose tool behavior as SECS/GEM messages. Deployments can run on a separate PC, the same PC as your process tool software, an embedded device, or even a Raspberry Pi — giving you flexibility to match your tool’s footprint and budget.
We’re Here to Help
ErgoTech has been working with equipment OEMs and fab integration teams for decades. If you’re unsure how to implement the minimal SECS/GEM mode controls, or how to interface with your existing tool software, we’ll advise and guide you through it.
You don’t need to rebuild the tool. You just need the right way to upgrade it with SECS/GEM.
We can help.
